Online Case Status and Court Tools Every Young Lawyer in Punjab Should Use
Every junior advocate in Punjab learns the same lesson early: a case can be fixed, adjourned or transferred while you are standing in another courtroom. A few years ago the only way to keep track was to visit the reader's desk, check the notice board and ask the clerk. Today most of that information is also available on official court and government websites, and the advocates who use these tools well waste less time and miss fewer dates.
This guide walks through the official online tools a young lawyer in Faisalabad or anywhere in Punjab should know. They include the Lahore High Court's case management pages, the district judiciary's case search and cause lists, the Supreme Court's case and judgment search, and the government's free law databases. It also covers video-link hearings and, most importantly, the limits of all these tools. Online information is a convenience. The court's own record is what counts.
Lahore High Court: cause lists, hearing status and copies
The Lahore High Court's official website has a Case Management section that most High Court juniors end up checking every day. It brings together:
Cause lists. Separate urgent, regular and supplementary cause lists, so you can see which matters are fixed and before which bench.
Roster of Sittings. Which judges are sitting at the Principal Seat and at the Rawalpindi, Multan and Bahawalpur Benches, and in what kind of cases.
Last Hearing Status. A search by bench location, judge, case number or party name that shows the most recent hearing date and outcome recorded for a case.
Diary Objection Cases. Fresh filings on which the office has raised objections, so you know a petition needs attention before it can proceed.
Certified Copy Status. A search by copy petition number or case number to see whether a certified copy you applied for is ready.
Live Proceedings. A page listing the cases being heard at that moment, which helps when you are waiting for your turn in another court.
The court has also published an official Lahore High Court mobile app, developed by the Punjab Information Technology Board, which offers cause lists, the roster and case search, with notifications when your cases are fixed. If you appear regularly at the High Court, installing it is worth the few minutes it takes.
Lahore High Court judgments online
Under its Reported Judgments section, the High Court publishes judgments approved for reporting by sitting and former judges. You can search by year, judge, case number, title, citation or tag line, and by decision or upload date. Many entries carry a short tag line summarizing the legal point, which makes it a quick way to see what the court has said recently on a question you are researching.
Treat this as a starting point, not a complete library. Not every judgment of the court appears there, and an older precedent may only be easy to find through a law report. If you are still building your research habits, our guide to legal research skills every advocate should know explains how to move from a statute to the cases that interpret it.

District courts: case information and cause lists
Most of a junior's work in Faisalabad happens in the district courts, and the district judiciary has its own online tools:
District court websites. Each district in Punjab has an official district courts website, linked from the Lahore High Court's homepage. The Faisalabad site, for example, carries cause lists by judge and date and a searchable section of judgments and orders. It also posts duty rosters and practical notices, such as the allocation of police stations for bail petitions.
Case Management System, District Judiciary Punjab. A province-wide portal run with the Punjab Information Technology Board. You select the district, then view a court's cause list or search a case by case number, or by FIR number, FIR year and police station.
District Judiciary Punjab app. An official mobile app from the same board that lets you search lower-court cases and view cause lists by district and court.
The FIR-based search is especially useful in criminal work. When a new client gives you only an FIR number and a police station, you can often find out which court the challan or bail matter has reached before you walk into the court building.
Supreme Court and Federal Constitutional Court
Even if you rarely appear there, you will often need to check a matter pending before the Supreme Court of Pakistan. It may be a senior's case at the Lahore Branch Registry or an appeal a client mentions. The Supreme Court's official website offers:
Online case search. Search by case type, number, year, registry, party name, judge or a lawyer's enrollment details. At least two search fields are required.
Cause lists. A monthly proposed cause list and a weekly final cause list, along with a cause list search.
Judgment search. Search by party names, sitting or former judge, case number, citation, keywords or date of announcement, plus a page of latest judgments.
Public Facilitation Portal. Status tracking for applications such as early hearing requests, general adjournments and video-link petitions, alongside the court's helpline.
Since the Twenty-Seventh Amendment, Pakistan also has a Federal Constitutional Court, and the Supreme Court's own statistics show that thousands of pending cases were transferred to it in November 2025. Its official website has its own case information search, cause lists, judgments and an online services portal for adjournment applications, early hearing requests and copy applications. If a constitutional matter you are following seems to have disappeared from the Supreme Court's search, check there.
Official law databases and gazettes
Reading the current text of a law is part of daily practice, and three free official sources cover most of what a Punjab advocate needs:
The Pakistan Code. Maintained by the Ministry of Law and Justice, it carries federal laws arranged alphabetically, chronologically and by category, with a separate document retrieval system for gazette notifications of federal laws.
The Punjab Code. Run by the Punjab Law and Parliamentary Affairs Department, it covers Punjab laws and rules, repealed and amending laws, proposed bills and gazette notifications.
Punjab Laws Online. The Provincial Assembly of the Punjab's database of provincial laws, with an advanced search, a law gazette section and lists of repealed laws.
Read their disclaimers. The Pakistan Code, for example, says its content is for information and directs users to the gazette notification if there is any doubt. For questions of authenticity, our guide to finding authentic Pakistani statutes and judgments explains which version to trust. Paid law report databases and printed law reports remain essential for case law, but these free government sites should be your first stop for statute text.
Video-link hearings and evidence
Video links are now part of Punjab court practice, though only within set rules. The Lahore High Court has used video links so that litigants and lawyers in distant districts can be heard without traveling, and the Supreme Court has heard cases across several cities by video link. In the district courts, a video-link facility has been introduced for people who cannot attend in person, including overseas witnesses. The Faisalabad district courts website publishes a standard operating procedure for its online video-link facility for recording evidence.
These facilities are not automatic. You usually have to apply, the court decides, and the procedure sets out identity checks, timing and who bears the cost. Read the current SOP on your district's website before you promise a client or witness that they can appear by video. Building the tools into your daily routine
Tools help only if you use them at fixed times. A simple routine looks like this:
The evening before. Check the next day's cause lists for every case in your diary, at the High Court and in the district courts, and note anything that appears unexpectedly.
Early morning. Check the supplementary and urgent lists, which can add matters after the regular list is published.
After each hearing. Write the next date and the order in your own diary from what the court said, then check the online status later to confirm it matches.
Weekly. Look for objections on fresh filings, follow up on pending copy applications and read recently uploaded judgments in your practice areas.
A routine like this fits naturally into the first year of a junior advocate in Faisalabad, when you are often the person in chambers responsible for the diary.
Common mistakes with online court tools
Treating the screen as the record. Online status can lag behind, contain data-entry errors or omit the full order. The court file and the certified copy are the record.
Missing a date because the list was not updated. A matter can be fixed through a supplementary list or by order in court. Never rely on a single source for a date that matters.
Quoting an online judgment without checking it. Before you rely on a judgment in a written argument, confirm the citation and the final text, and file a certified copy where the court requires one.
Using an outdated statute. Check whether the law has been amended since the version you found, and confirm against the gazette when it matters.
Careless sharing of client details. Search with the minimum information you need, and do not forward a client's case details or identity documents to people who do not need them.
Frequently asked questions
Is the online case status an official court record?
No. Online case status, cause lists and judgments are published for convenience and can lag behind or contain errors. For any date, order or judgment that matters, rely on the court file and obtain a certified copy.
Which online tool should I use for a case in a Faisalabad district court?
Start with the Faisalabad district courts website or the Case Management System of the District Judiciary Punjab, where you can view cause lists and search by case number or by FIR details. The District Judiciary Punjab mobile app offers similar case search and cause lists. Always confirm the next date in court as well.
Are free government law websites enough for legal research?
They are reliable starting points for statute text, and the Pakistan Code, the Punjab Code and Punjab Laws Online cover most federal and Punjab laws. For case law you will still need law reports or a paid database, and for any doubt about the text you should check the gazette notification.
Online court tools will not make you a good lawyer by themselves, but they remove a lot of guesswork from daily practice. Learn where each piece of information lives, check it at fixed times, and always go back to the certified record before you act on something important. Clients notice the junior who never misses a date.
About this guide: the tools described here were checked in October 2026 on the official websites of the Lahore High Court, the Faisalabad district courts, the District Judiciary Punjab, the Supreme Court and the Federal Constitutional Court. We also checked the Pakistan Code, the Punjab Code, Punjab Laws Online and the official court apps. Websites and procedures change often, so confirm the current position with the court or department concerned.
